EVOLUTION OF THE PEUGEOT LOGO

Since the iconic Peugeot Lion first appeared, it has constantly evolved and has perpetually highlighted the passionate, feline character of the Peugeot brand.

1905

Signature-stamp created

The grilles of Lion Peugeot brand cars are crowned with the Lion walking on its arrow. Over the next few years, bikes and tools use variations of the theme.

1923

The Lion phenomenon thrives

Peugeot owners adorn their radiator caps with a Lion, designed by the sculptor Baudichon.

1933

The Lion reigns on grilles

Every Peugeot car now has a Lion’s head emblazoned on its grille. In 1935, its design changes with the “Sochaux rocket” line.

1948

The 203 adopts the Lion from the Franche-Comté coat of arms

A Lioness’ head embellishes the bonnet of the 203, which is also given a new insignia with the Franche-Comté coat of arms’ Lion.

The Franche-Comté coat of arms’ Lion also decorates the 403

For security reasons, lions’ heads are withdrawn from the bonnets of the 203 and 204 in September 1958.

The Lion changes its style

The 404 inaugurates a new Lion with a flowing mane, crowned with Peugeot lettering and set in the centre of the grille.

1968

The Lion breaks new ground

On the 504, it adopts an ever-so sleek style, a flat shape and is either gold or chrome-plated.

1975

The “Lion outline”

The heraldic Lion is now showcased with angular features, hollowed in the centre and is known as the “Lion outline”.

1998

The Lion becomes larger and incorporates an enhanced relief

The Lion adopts a new posture

The more dynamic, intensely-fluid Lion creates a bi-metallic effect through its contrasting matt and lustrous finishing details.
