The City Toyz
At the 2000 Mondial de l’Automobile Paris motor show, Peugeot pulled out all the stops. A whole range of concept cars was on display, with the City Toyz providing one of the main highlights. The Peugeot stand was transformed into a fairground attraction with the vroomster, bobslid, e-doll and kart up. Transport yourself to another time and discover the futuristic, optimistic vision Peugeot’s designers have of the city of the future.
Welcome to the bright, colourful world of City Toyz…
What was the initial brief?
All projects are based on a study theme. In this case, the initial request was urban mobility. But the enthusiastic staff at the Peugeot Style Centre also wanted to celebrate the year 2000. When they were little kids, they all had visions of flying cars!
The Y2K changeover occurred without any bugs arising: cars still have four wheels!
Their mission: To prove that it was still possible to dream in the year 2000.
The question the stylists were asked: Imagine your dream car for the new millennium. Generally speaking, how do you envisage people will be getting around in a city environment in the future?
The response: An artist’s vivid imagination! To provide a fitting celebration of the year 2000, they wanted to offer a range of small runabouts, which is why there are four City Toyz. They wanted to create nice concepts, so they gave free rein to their imaginations and creativity.
